Sarosh nu Patru Prayers

Please see message below from Firoza Panthaki and her family on the passing away of her dear beloved mom (Firoza is also an ex-President of the ZAGBA Board and she and Farhad are very active members of the community).  ZAGBA Board members are saddened to send this message on her behalf and sends to Firoza and her entire family its deepest condolences on behalf of the Board members and the entire community.

Dear ZAGBA Community,

I am saddened to inform you of the passing of my dear mother Perin (Mamma to most folks) on January 4th at 6 am in Mumbai. She was 84 years old. She passed peacefully in her sleep at my sister’s house in Malcolm Baug surrounded by all the love and care my sister Kashmira and Sarosh have given her, for which we are very blessed. She suffered from multiple ailments but you could not tell that from her smiling face and positive attitude and spirit. I had the opportunity to spend some time with mamma last month when I visited her for which I will be forever grateful.

Most of you met Mamma who would visit us almost every Summer and into the Fall when she stayed with us and loved to attend all community activities and get together. She loved being in the USA and would proudly proclaim “I Love America”!  She loved playing cards (pana) with anyone who was willing. She also enjoyed making sadras and altering clothes for our friends. Mamma had a very easy-going personality and was always positive and smiling. Though she did not have a formal education, mamma would learn things on her own by picking up kids’ books and reading. She was an inspiration to us all.

If I had to choose one single gift that Mamma gave Kashmira and myself, it would be the gift of a good education. It was thanks to mamma’s foresight that both of us went to a great boarding school in Bandra and received a world class education for which we are forever grateful to her.

She is especially loved and missed by her four grandchildren all of whom she helped raise into fine adults.

Farhad, Zaal, Sanaya, Kashmira, Sarosh, Sharmin and Natasha and her sister Goolshan and family and our friends and other lives she touched, will forever remember her resilience and zest for life!

All prayers are being performed in Mumbai as well as Uthamna Ceremony in our home town Saronda.

We will also be doing prayers here in Boston.

Farhad will be performing the Sarosh nu Patru Prayers on Saturday January 5th at Temple Shalom Emeth, 16 Lexington St., Burlington, MA 01803 (same location where ZAGBA has its Annual Jashan and Gahambar) from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm followed by a Memorial Service in her honor which is open to all.

We are consoled in the knowledge that she is at peace now and lived a full life.

God Bless!

Firoza, Farhad, Zaal and Sanaya Panthaki
